Email Marketing Tips
If you're considering going into email
marketing, there are some things that you will want to be aware of
in order to avoid having your campaign fall flat on its face. Email
marketing isn't as easy as it was back in the old days now that we
have all these spam filters and ISPs acting like traffic cops. So
if you want your email marketing campaign to get off the ground,
you may want to read some of the tips in this article. They very
well may save your life.
Since I've brought up the subject of spam, let's
get that part of it out of the way first. For starters, never send
unsolicited email. It will only end up getting your ISP to shut you
down and fast. You only want to send emails to people who have
specifically opted in to get information from you. Otherwise, it is
spam, plain and simple. This is a good way to have your reputation
ruined for life.
Even if you don't spam people, there is a chance
that your emails won't be delivered because of the spam filters
that many of the ISPs use. See, even if an email isn't technically
spam, these filters have no way of knowing that. The filters go by
the words that you use in your subjects and emails. The problem
with this is that the spam filters are not perfect and sometimes
will mistake a word used in a completely different context and flag
it as spam. I'm not going to go into specific detail of what words
are generally considered spam because we'll be here all day.
However, there are many free sites on the Internet that will check
your email message for spam content and give it a score. Generally,
a score under 2 is sale. A score of 2 to 5 is borderline and
anything over 5 will usually be regarded as spam and not
delivered.
Another thing you want to do when you're running
an email marketing campaign is make sure your subjects are
captivating. It doesn't matter how good your email ad itself is. If
the subject of your ad is dull and lackluster, nobody is going to
read your email. So you want to use subject lines that are
interesting. The best way to gauge this is to look at the emails
that you receive and take a look at the ones that got YOUR
attention. The reason is because of the subject. But please, don't
use subjects like "You just got a payment" or "Message from admin"
as these subjects will get you into a lot of trouble.
Finally, in the email ad itself, you want to
make sure that it's well structured. It should have an intro a
middle and a conclusion with a call to action, if you're trying to
get somebody to buy something. Some people ramble on in emails with
no direction. That is a sure way to lose your prospect.
Hopefully, these few tips will make your email
campaigns just a little more effective.
